Ancelotti must reconcile Arbeloa and Casillas at Real Madrid

Iker Casillas and Alvaro Arbeloa both began their careers from the Real Madrid youth system but, whereas Casillas became the first team keeper at 18-years old and went on to play for his boyhood club over 650 times so far, Arbeloa had to move on to further his career.

The right back went into the B team, where he impressed, but he only managed two first team appearances in La Liga, so decided to accept a transfer to Deportivo La Coruna, which earned him a move to the English Premier League with Rafa Benitez and Liverpool. Then he was brought back to Real Madrid in 2009 and has been a fixture in the side since then.

Most of his time at the Bernabeu, therefore, has been under the management of Jose Mourinho, which perhaps explains why he supported the departing manager publicly. The problem is that his support of Mourinho was seen as an attack on his team mates, especially Casillas.

The new manager Carlo Ancelotti is trying to form a more relaxed and happy Real Madrid, but he cannot do that if there is this big division in the squad, so he wants the two players to resolve any differences. Because of Casillas being captain and his love for the club, Ancelotti will appeal to the 32-year old keeper to be the peacemaker, for the greater good of Real Madrid and the fans.

Casillas may still feel angry about Arbeloa’s badly chosen statement, but he always wants what is best for the club. He managed to act with dignity while Mourinho was pushing him to the brink, so I am sure he can do the same with Arbeloa.
