Bale off the boil but WILL start for Real Madrid at Betis

There are concerns at Real Madrid over the recent poor performances of Gareth Bale, the most expensive player in the world. Nobody is exactly panicking or regretting the decision to sign the Welshman just yet, but there are some rumblings.

It is a bit harsh on Bale, in my opinion, because he did not set his own price and his Madrid career so far has been beset by niggling injury problems. And despite that, Bale is the club’s third top scorer behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema and he has played less than those two as well as Isco, Di Maria and others.

But he has not returned well from his latest injury lay-off and the last of his nine goals came as a hat-trick against Valladolid at the end of November. The worry recently is that he is not really getting into games and making any impact. Ancelotti is hoping that this is just a phase and the best way to get bale out of it is to play him, so the boss has declared that he will start away to bottom club Real Betis today and insisted he has no doubts about Bale whatsoever.

Having paid around 100 million euros to prise the player from Tottenham, he doesn’t really have much option and the Madrid fans, who can be pretty impatient, are not kicking off too much because they have already seen some of the Bale brilliance we have been hoping for. Let’s just hope that Bale does not turn out to be injury-prone in general and that this is just a tricky period for him.
