To be honest I am surprised that Real Madrid are currently only the third favourites to lift the Champions League trophy once again this season, with Barcelona first favourites and Bayern Munich second. So even though our Wales international star Gareth Bale is still not fit enough to feature for Los Blancos, I think that we must be a good bet to be crowned champions of Europe once more.
I suppose the fact that Real Madrid finished as runners up in the qualifying group has affected the odds and the fact that a Sky Sports report reveals that Zinedine Zidane is happy to be cautious about bringing Bale back into action. The report says that he will miss the first leg of the Champions League knockout double header with Napoli, but he is likely to be back in time for the second.
It seems strange that Madrid are four points ahead of La Liga rivals Barcelona in the Spanish table with a game in hand, and that is without the services of the Welshman since November, but are behind them with the bookies in the UCL betting. There are other bets available but winning the Champions League at around 5 to 1 looks pretty good to me.
Even though Madrid did not win the group, we got a decent draw with Napoli and once Bale is back in the side we should be favourites to beat anyone to be fair. So have the bookies messed up with their odds? I certainly hope so.
