Bale skips training, Levy fumes and Man United deny bid to hijack Real Madrid transfer

When you consider that Real Madrid and Tottenham are supposed to have a close and friendly relationship, I would hate to see how the chairman Daniel Levy dealt with a club he didn’t like. Constantly trying to hike up an already astronomical transfer fee is just one of the ways Levy is stretching Madrid and their transfer target Gareth Bale’s patience to the limit.

The Welshman was huffily ordered back to England despite supposedly recuperating from a minor injury in Spain yesterday. He was then summarily told to turn up for training this morning with his Tottenham team mates, apparently because Levy is angry about the way Madrid are dealing with the transfer. Bale did not turn up, and his relationship with Levy must be all but over now. One thing is for sure, he will not be a happy man if the deal does not go through now.

There were rumours yesterday of another club, though to be Manchester United negotiating with Tottenham. I thought at the time that this seemed like a ploy by Levy to increase his bargaining power, and David Moyes has denied making any offer for the player.

So the ball is back in Levy’s court. There is a theory that he is trying to complete the signing of 21-year old Argentinean striker Erik Lamela from the Italian club Roma, or that he is simply angered by Madrid setting up the presentation stage for Bale before the deal was signed. I strongly suspect that Florentino Perez will hope he never has to do business with Tottenham again after all this nonsense.
