Ballon D’Or support grows for Real Madrid star Ronaldo

Posted on November 18, 2013 by admin

Fans of Real Madrid have already lost faith with the process of choosing the winner of the Ballon D’Or, and the recent idiotic performance of the FIFA president Sepp Blatter has done nothing to change their minds. Cristiano Ronaldo is the stand out candidate this year, in my opinion, but that does not mean he will win it.

It appears that the bookies feel it will be the Bayern Munich and France player Franck Ribery who wins it this year, and the people who support him say he deserves it because Bayern won the treble. Well that theory didn’t stop Messi beating Ronaldo last year even though Madrid had ended Barcelona’s title winning and recorded a record number of points into the bargain.

The award is supposed to go to the best player in a calendar year, and there is no doubt that has been CR7. Football experts who have no allegiance to any of the candidates all seem to think so, as do fans. Corriere dello Sport in Italy asked it’s readers, and their response was unequivocal, with 55 percent going for Ronaldo, 24 percent for Ribery and just 19 percent for Messi.

Even some of the Barcelona players have spoken out about the disrespect shown by Blatter in his mockery of Ronaldo, but FIFA seem immune to criticism. Instead of making sure they were fair to Ronaldo after Blatter’s stupid comments, they went the other way and played down Ronaldo’s achievements on their website, while building up the claims of Ribery and Messi.

Ronaldo clearly deserves the award and I would love him to win it, but I have no faith in the voting and will not be putting any money on it.
