Benzema begins to prove Real Madrid right to keep him

For the last few seasons, Real Madrid have used the two centre forwards Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain fairly equally. Their goal tallys were pretty similar and neither could seem to tie down the starting position. The situation did not really seem to be good for either striker and the club decided to act and sell one of them this summer, and the man to leave was Higuain.

There are other strikers at Madrid, but the main role was now Benzema’s, but his performances so far have drawn criticism from fans and the media alike. I think that is a bit harsh, because the whole team has taken it’s time to get going and adapt to the new coach and new signings.

The France international scored a brace in Istanbul on Tuesday, and that took his figures on to four goals in five games so far this season, along with three assists provided. That is pretty good in my book, and the voices of dissent are certainly starting to die down. Benzema himself has assured Madrid fans that he is getting better all the time and they will start to see the best of him soon.

Benzema said, “You’ll see. I’m in good shape, I feel good and I will make a great game.”

He certainly likes the Champions League, with 21 goals in 35 games for Madrid. Now he is the main man, he is starting to feel more secure, while playing more regularly as well. With all the creativity around him at the Bernabeu, Benzema should be set for his best season ever, which will please his manager and president and show their decision to be well made.
