Brilliant Bale helps Real Madrid win Champions League group

There may have been some concern among Real Madrid fans yesterday, with Cristiano Ronaldo ruled out of the Champions League game through injury. The opponents, Turkish champions Galatasaray, had improved a lot since Madrid beat then heavily in Istanbul, with Roberto Mancini working his magic, so people expected a tough test.

Those fears were much worse when Sergio Ramos was sent off for denying what the referee deemed to be a scoring opportunity. Although it was a bit soft, Ramos does it too often and must control himself, especially in Europe.

It was Madrid who opened the scoring, though. Bale showed another part of the talent that made Perez so determined to sign him with a fantastic and inch perfect free kick. Although the Turks levelled just a minute later, Bale’s performance and goal had given Madrid the impetus and we went on to win the game comfortably by 4-1.

Arbeloa was the closest to the Welshman for best player and he capped his game with a goal and an assist for Di Maria. Another new summer signing Isco got the fourth, but it was Bale who took the plaudits. It is great to see him settling in so well after the initial frustration, and the fans are really starting to see him as a top player, while he gives Ancelotti a nice option and cover in case he needs to rest Ronaldo.
