Can Ronaldo step up to win La Liga for Real Madrid?

Posted on February 01, 2014 by admin

Real Madrid is a team packed full of world class talent. Involved in a three-way battle for top spot in La Liga with arch rivals Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, they will be hoping that those world class players can fire them to the title. They are also the most successful club of all time in the UEFA Champions’ League or European Cup equivalent, with nine trophies. If they wish to win the competition and the magical ‘tenth’ trophy this season, then they will need more than just everybody playing well.

Even in a team as full of talent as Real Madrid, there is a leading light, a jewel in the crown: Cristiano Ronaldo, recent winner of the 2013 Balon D’or, the trophy that annually goes to the individual best player in the world, is Real’s superstar. Ronaldo has so far scored 22 goals in 20 appearances for Real this season, a record that may be incredible for most, but for Ronaldo, it is almost the minimum expectation now. For a player that spectators are used to seeing dominate games at the very highest level and almost scoring at will, a goal per game is no longer seen as spectacular. In order for Real to go on and win competitions this season, he may have to play even better.

Can Real Madrid Win La Liga?

The simple answer is that they absolutely can, but in order to do so, they will have to win almost every game. Madrid’s schedule is tough and can be followed with football betting previews from Coral; they may have to rely upon Ronaldo producing some spectacular individual performances, even more spectacular than he has been.

The fact that Real Madrid are not the favourites to win La Liga this season could possibly galvanize them. Real are currently second favourites, just behind Barcelona, and just ahead of Atlético. Only one point currently separates Real from top-placed Barcelona, and overtaking them by winning El Clásico against Barcelona in Madrid on March 22nd would delight the fans. Real also face city-neighbours Atlético away from home on March 1st, and these two games will go a long way to deciding who will lift the La Liga trophy. In a strange twist of fate, Barcelona face Atlético on the final day of the season.

If Real are to go on and lift the trophy, they will need Ronaldo to improve and put in some superhuman performances. For anyone else this may be a big ask, but we have all seen what Ronaldo is capable of in the past.
