Cavani hints at Real Madrid transfer

There are, realistically, only two clubs in Spain with the financial ability and pulling power to sign the world’s top strikers, Real Madrid and Barcelona. Seeing as how the Catalan club have this week agreed a five year deal with the young Brazilian striker, the story about Edinson Cavani wanting to come to play in Spain suggests strongly that Real Madrid is likely to be the striker’s next destination.

The 26-year old Napoli striker is currently on international duty with Utuguay and will be involved in the confederations cup next month. He is the subject of interest from a host of big clubs around Europe, including Chelsea and Manchester City and was asked about his future.

Cavani said, “When we are little we always dream, and the first teams that come into your head are those on the world stage for their marketing, their image, their publicity. That makes you dream about how nice it would be to play for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

“It’s all unknown and nobody knows. When the moment comes we will see. As long as there is nothing signed, there is nothing done.”

Cavani still has a decent contract with his Italian club, but they would be unable to do anything to stop him leaving if a club was willing to pay his release clause of over £50 million. Madrid will hope to get him for less than that and if the striker has his heart set on the Bernabeu, Napoli will probably sell for less.
