Coleman wades into Real Madrid and Bale injury saga!!

It will be very interesting to see the Real Madrid squad and the starting XI for the trip to play Malaga in La Liga on Saturday, because the news coming out of Real Madrid is that Gareth Bale should be alright to play. The Club has already declared that the injury news reported by the Spanish newspaper Marca is incorrect.

The report claimed that Bale had a slipped disc and would need surgery. It also claimed that the injury was known to Florentino Perez the club president before the massive transfer was completed at the beginning of last month. Perez and Madrid have categorically denied this and explained that Bale does have a small, chronic disc bulge on his back, but it is fairly normal for footballers and will not stop him playing.

Bale has missed the international break with Wales in order to train specifically to catch up some of the fitness he lost through not playing in pre-season. His international manager, Chris Coleman, has also added to the saga of Bale’s injury and fitness by claiming that Bale had no back problems when he was with Wales earlier this season, which supports Madrid’s side of the story.

However, he also suggested that Bale was nowhere near being fit and ready to play. While Madrid and Bale are suggesting that Bale could be raring to go for the first El Clasico of this La Liga season, Coleman believes that is nothing more than fantasy, and that Madrid fans may have to be very patient with their expensive new player.

He said, “Anyone who plays top level professional football and you don’t have a pre-season, if you expect to start any game, you are bonkers, crackers. It doesn’t happen.

“You are always playing catch-up, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s after Christmas before we see Gareth getting into it again.”

It seems obvious that Bale needs time on the pitch, both for fitness and to get settled in with his new team mates and a new style of football in Spain. So although he probably won’t start, he should come on at some point. If he doesn’t, it would suggest to me that his injury problems are worse than the Club are letting on.
