Could Benitez replace Mourinho at Real Madrid?

Posted on February 20, 2013 by admin

Rafa Benitez began his coaching career at Real Madrid when he was just 26-years old. He was born in Madrid and joined the academy and played over 200 games for Real Madrid Castilla, but his playing career never hit the heights, but he was much more successful as a manager. After great success with Tenerife and Valencia, where he beat the big to to the Spanish title twice and won the Uefa cup, he moved to England and Liverpool where he won the Champions league.

Benitez is currently the manager of Chelsea, but it is only an interim position. Even if he wins the Europa league and the FA cup, which is still possible, there is very little chance of him staying at the club. There seems very little chance of Jose Mourinho staying at Real Madrid either, even if he wins the European and Spanish cups, which is still possible.

The two managers could actually exchange roles in the summer. Chelsea fans love Mourinho and he has often spoken about returning to England. Benitez has Real Madrid in his heart and has plenty of top flight experience. He refused to talk specifically about managing Madrid, saying it would be disrespectful to Mourinho, but it is clear that he would jump at the chance. The question is whether Madrid will ask him.
