Defence still a worry as Real Madrid need a result at Juventus

Having let five goals in over the course of the last two games, Real Madrid need to sort their defence out pretty quickly. Sevilla and Rayo Vallecano are not exactly the toughest opponents either, so a trip to face Juventus in the Champions League would appear to be a much harder test for the Madrid defenders.

The Italian champions are yet to win in the Champions League this season, having lost in Madrid last time and drawn their first two games, at home to Galatasaray and away to Copenhagen, but that should not be taken into consideration. Ancelotti will know that Juventus will have a point to prove and are unlikely to make it easy.

The Serie A side have scored in all of their games this season, so the Madrid boss will be demanding a much better and more solid performance from his players tomorrow. Ancelotti was scathing of his team’s second half performance against Rayo on Saturday, conceding two goals in three minutes after being three in front. The fact that it was a very similar story against Sevilla last week is certainly worrying, and not the sort of habit you want to get into.

A win, or even a draw, in Italy will virtually guarantee top spot in the European group. A defeat, however, would open up the group again and make things a lot more nervy for the last two games, so Ancelotti has called for no more lapses in concentration.
