Di Maria thinks Refs are picking on Real Madrid

Real Madrid have been on the wrong side of some poor decisions this season, and it seems to have got worse recently. Kaka was sent off against Osasuna on Saturday for two yellow cards, both of which were extremely soft. The first was for an elbow when replays showed that he merely jumped with his hand up. The second was for impeding afree kick when the player just kicked the ball at him on purpose.

The game before that, Sergio Ramos was sent off when all he did was fall over and a Celta Vigo player fell over him. To make matters worse, His ban was increased to five matches for complaining. In the same game, Mourinho was clearly incensed on the touchline because Real Madrid players, especially Ronaldo, were being fouled constantly with no reprisals from the officials.

Mourinho elected not to take the press conference, but sent the Argentinean winger, Angel Di Maria, out in his stead. Mourinho probably knew that he would be punished by the Spanish football authorities if he complained about the treatment, whereas Di Maria might not.

“You all know more than anyone that, lately with Real Madrid, referees are getting confused and are making bad decisions. There have been sendings off, yellow cards and things that opponents could have got sent off for but didn’t, and then they send one of us off for the slightest thing. These things happen but I think that sometimes they are mistakes that are not made by mistake.”
