Even Barcelona people think Real Madrid’s Ronaldo should win Ballon D’Or

Because if the fierce rivalry between Real Madrid and Barcelona in La Liga, you would not normally expect any support for Cristiano Ronaldo coming from the Nou Camp, but it seems the Portuguese star is seen as so deserving of the FIFA Ballon D’Or this year that even people connected with the Catalan club are saying Ronaldo should win.

This still does not mean that CR7 will walk away with the award for the best footballer in the world for 2013, because it all depends on the voting and there is always a bit of bias and favouritism. The Spain manager Vicente Del Bosque, for instance, has already revealed that he will always vote for Spanish players as his top three, while team mates for club and country will vote for each other.

So it is strange to hear the Brazil and Barcelona player Dani Alves suggesting that a Portugal and Real Madrid player deserves to win. Even odder is that Rodrigo Messi, Leo’s brother, also suggested that Ronaldo should win, although he also stated that his brother had fully deserved to win it for the last four years. Messi has not been at his best this year, and the bookies have the Argentinean at a distant third to Ronaldo and Ribery.

Rodrigo said, “Cristiano and Messi are the best in the world, two extraordinary players. For those who love football it is beautiful.”

Alves said, “Cristiano is in a purple patch. I think this year he is a little ahead of the others.

“His chances of winning are better because he is playing so well and scoring goals. It’s true that he did not win any trophies, but he is in a fantastic place.”

It is no understatement to say that hearing these two people who are so close to Messi praising Ronaldo in this way is incredible. It seems to me that Sepp Blatter’s disrespectful comments about the Real Madrid star have actually made more people support Ronaldo and, strangely, it has enhanced his chances of getting the Ballon D’Or. If he doesn’t it will be a travesty.
