Has Real Madrid boss finally found his best XI for Juventus?

Carlo Ancelotti takes his Real Madrid squad back to the country of his birth tonight to face the Italian champions Juventus in the Champions League. The Madrid boss experienced one of the worst spells of his football career with Juventus; his two tears in charge ending ignominiously when he was sacked at halftime of the final game of the season. So the manager will have an extra incentive to beat Juventus tonight, thereby ensuring top spot in the group for Madrid and probably condemning the Italians to the Europa League.

Ancelotti has dabbled and tinkered with his Madrid squad so far, and has yet to really find a definitive system and impose his own stamp on the team, but there are signs that he is settling on a formation and a best XI. Of course, there is the issue with the keepers, but it now seems that Casillas will play in the Champions League and Lopez plays in La Liga. When the Copa Del Rey starts, it will probably be Casillas as well.

Benzema seems to be getting back to his old self, which makes his selection a lot easier, while Gareth Bale is already putting the frustration of his first weeks behind him and proving to be an excellent addition. The relationship between the Welshman and Ronaldo is also great to see and has put any concern over a clash of egos firmly aside. So the front three almost pick themselves.

It is just a matter of who plays behind them, with Isco and Di Maria; Alonso, Khedira and Modric fighting to make up the midfield. The defence is a little more undecided, with Ramos, Varane and Pepe battling for two spots. Marcelo seems to have nailed down the left back, but Ancelotti seems undecided over Arbeloa or Carvajal. It will be interesting to see who starts tonight, because that could prove to be Ancelotti’s first choice side.
