Is it time for Real Madrid to worry about Ancelotti?

Posted on September 30, 2013 by admin

When you take charge of a club like Real Madrid, there is a certain amount of pressure on your shoulders. Carlo Ancelotti would have been well aware of this when he took the job this summer, but he may not have realised just how tough his task would be, or how little time he would be given to sort things out.

Defeat to local rivals Atletico at the Bernabeu on Saturday, however, has brought everything to the boil. He was whistled by the Madrid home fans during the game, and the Spanish papers, especially the Madrid supporting ones AS and Marca, are not pulling their punches. Just like last season, Madrid have started the season slowly and this has allowed the two fierce rivals Barcelona and Atletico to pull away at the top of La Liga.

Benzema is looking out of sorts, but Ancelotti seems reluctant to replace him. He did bring young Morata on eventually, but took Isco rather than the French striker off. Ronaldo had a quiet day, and nobody else stepped up. Bale is not fully fir yet, but he has not yet shown the fans why the club paid so much money for him. What makes it even worse is that Higuain and Ozil, sold to Napoli and Arsenal this summer, are both doing well and have helped their clubs to the top of their respective leagues.

Ancelotti has admitted that Madrid need to turn around the current slump very quickly, although he says he will not panic and try to change the playing style. Madrid fans are not known for their patience, however, so he could do with a good win in the Champions League and a much better showing in La Liga next weekend.
