Marca insists that it’s story about Real Madrid was true!

The Spanish newspaper Marca is well known to be generally supportive of Real Madrid. There have always been good relations between the club and the reporters and staff of Marca. Until recently, that is. The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, issued a statement yesterday that declared Marca’s story completely false and suggested that it was an attempt to destabilise the club, the president and the manager.

Today, Marca struck back, insisting that `Marca does not lie`! The paper published a picture of the text message it received, apparently from a Madrid player, telling them about the meeting in question. Apparently, Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas had a meeting in a restaurant with Perez, at which they told him that many players would leave the club if Jose Mourinho did not.

Everyone at the club has denied this and stated that the talk was a normal meeting about bonuses and players and how the season was going, but Marca is not backing down. It was not long ago that Marca ran a story from one of it’s reporters who claimed that Mourinho and the goalkeeping coach had taken him into a room at the training ground, demanded that he revealed the source of his information about the team and insulted him repeatedly.

Whether there is any connection between the two incidents, I have no idea, but there are certainly problems between the club and the paper. Originally it seemed to be just between Marca and Mourinho but it has escalated and is doing nobody any good at a crucial stage of the season.
