Monaco to hurt Real Madrid again with Ronaldo bid

I think that Real Madrid and Florentino Perez will soon start to dread the very word Monaco, because the newly promoted French Ligue 1 side seem determined to wreck all of Madrid’s transfer business this summer. They have already poached the club’s main transfer target and now they want our best player.

The football world was stunned when it was announced last month that the Atletico Madrid and Colombia international striker Radamel Falcao had agreed to snub Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real, and join the relatively small and recently struggling outfit Monaco. They have a new Russian owner, though, who just happens to be a multi billionaire, while their tax laws mean that the players get to keep almost all of their wages.

According to The Independent, Monaco are now preparing an offer for Cristiano Ronaldo, which may make the player determined to force his way out of the club. Real Madrid are trying to persuade the Portuguese magician to sign a new deal, but they will not be able to compete with the gargantuan wages that Monaco are offering. The report claims that Ronaldo will receive around £17 million a year if he moves to Monaco, slightly less than Samuel Eto’o, but his tax free status would make him the world’s highest earner by quite a long way.

They are also apparently willing to pay Real Madrid the £80 million we spent to sign him from Manchester United. Nobody wants to lose the talents of Ronaldo, but this may be one deal that even Madrid and Perez cannot resist, especially if Ronaldo wants to go.
