Jose Mourinho had given his players a public dressing down after Saturday’s defeat by Sevilla and after thir loss to Getafe in the second La Liga game. He had stated that the players had not performed and that their focus and determination was not nearly the same as last season.
“At the break I changed two players but I wanted to change seven.
“There are very few heads at the minute who are committed and concentrated.
“I am worried that, in this moment, I don’t have a team.”
Today, Mourinho has attempted to take some of the pressure off his players by accepting responsibility for Real Madrid’s worst start to a season in years. He has told the press that the team’s lack of direction is his fault, just as their determination last season was attributable to his management skills.
Mourinho told TVE that he had told his players what he was going to say before he held his press conference and that the relationship with his players was absolutely fine. There have been suggestions that the pre-season was not ideal and took too much out of the players too soon before the league started but Mourinho did not accept this as the problem.
Mourinho also refused to lay the blame with ant specific players and denied that the Ronaldo situation has affected team morale. With Madrid in the toughest of all the champion’s league groups, The game against Manchester City tomorrow is crucial. If they lose at home then the pressure will really start to increasefrom all sides.
