Jose Mourinho did not have the best end to 2012, finishing the year third in the Primera Liga table and trailing main rivals Barcelona by 16 points. Not only that but the Spanish media was full of stories about arguments in the dressing room and Mourinho had been involved in a bust up with prominent journalist. Having finished second in the champions league group, we got a nasty knockout draw against Manchester United.
Mourinho will be glad for any good news at the moment, and this week there are two things for Madrid fans to smile about. Gonzalo Higuain has recovered from the hamstring injury that sidelined him for two months. Madrid mustkeep up the pressure on Athletico and Barcelona and start to recover some form before the champions league games.
The game tomorrow against Real Sociedad is a must win, so the re-introduction of Higuain could be a vital boost to the squad. With a number of defenders missing, Madrid need to go on the attack so Mourinho may even pick Higuain alongside Ronaldo and Benzema.
The other good news is the return to training of the Brazilian left back Marcelo. The player has been out of action since breaking his Metatarsal in October. Marcelo is two weeks ahead of schedule, which is great because of the need for him to replace the out of favour Coentrao. Mourinho will be hoping that all his bad luck is out of the way and he can focus on winning some football matches now.
