The Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho believes that winning La Liga from their great rivals Barcelona will be much more satisfying than winning the Champions League this season.
He explained his reasoning as: “For me, the league, in its conception, is so important because the best team always wins it,”
“In the Champions League, the team that wins is not always the best.
“When you win the league, it’s very good for a coach’s self-esteem, because he knows he has done well throughout the year.”
Mourinho had previously resigned from both Porto and Inter Milan just after winning the Champions League with the respective clubs, but the Portugese coach says that winning Europes most prestigious trophy will have no effect on his decision on whether to stay at the Bernabeau after this season.
“With Porto, I left because I thought it was the time to leave – I had other ambitions, and with Inter I had decided to leave before the final.”
Personally I believe that Mourinho will be leaving Madrid this summer, and it would not surprise me at all if he won both competitions before resigning. The Special One just loves the dramatic moment when he goes out on a high, although Pep Guardiola and Barcelona may disagree with me on that one.
But what a brilliant Champions League Final that would make……
