Mourinho worried Referee will ruin game against Valencia

Real Madrid travel to the Mestalla stadium tonight to face Valencia in the second leg of the Copa Del Rey quarter finals. Madrid should be full of confidence, as they are 2-0 up from the first leg. They also thrashed Valencia 5-0 at the Mestalla in the league at the weekend. Add to that the fact that Valencia are missing their captain and main strike threat Roberto Soldado, and you would think there is nothing to worry about.

Jose Mourinho is far from relaxed, however, because he knows that the last two results do not tell the whole story. Both games were a lot tighter than the scoreline suggests, and Real Madrid have been unpredictable all season. The confidence in the team is growing but is still fragile. If a few things go against Madrid, they could struggle to keep control of the match.

That is why Mourinho is so concerned about the referee, Perez Lasa. Mourinho has had run ins with Lasa before. He publicly criticised him during his first season at the club after drawing with Almeria, saying that he hoped Lasa would never again take charge of one of their games. The Portuguese coach thought he should have had three penalties in the game, and was unhappy with him again this season as Madrid lost to Getafe.

Mourinho’s previous comments about Senor Lasa will not have helped his cause, but may make him think twice about any penalty or disciplinary decisions. If Madrid can repeat their performance of the weekend, then it should not matter who is in charge.
