New £75m contract ensures Ronaldo stays at Real Madrid until 2018 and earns more than Messi

In five years from now, unless Real Madrid have extended his contract in the meantime, Cristiano Ronaldo will have completed his current contract and he will be 33-years old. We have seen players, such as Beckham, Giggs and others keep playing well into their 30’s, but Madrid will definitely have had the best years out of one of the best players ever to grace a football pitch.

The contract saga has been going on all summer, and even last season, but it is being reported now that Real Madrid have agreed terms with Ronaldo on a new five year deal worth a massive £75 million. That will take the 28-year old superstar to over 300,000 euros a week and, perhaps crucially, will put him above the Barcelona and Argentina striker Lionel Messi on the football rich list.

This is a fantastic deal for both the club and the player. It will also lessen the pressure on Florentino Perez to sign Gareth Bale from Tottenham. The chairman of the Premier League club, Daniel Levy, is being as awkward as possible and his demands are getting ridiculous, even though the Welsh player has made it clear he wants to leave and believes he has a verbal agreement with Levy.

I don’t think Madrid should bow to his demands and feel that we will get him for a much more reasonable price next season. You can bet that Bale will not be signing another contract with Tottenham, unless it has a watertight release clause in it.
