No Bale tonight for Real Madrid but he’s back for Atletico

Real Madrid travel to Alicante tonight to play Elche, one of the teams promoted into La Liga last season. Although they are expected to win comfortably, Carlo Ancelotti is wary of complacency and is trying to keep his players on their toes.

The Italian said, “It will not be easy. Every match, before the game, you have to stay focused, stay concentrated.

“Of course we have to consider that we have more quality, but if we don’t use the same motivation, the same character, as the opposing team, it will be difficult.”

Elche have yet to win a game this season, so everything points to a confortable Madrid win, but Ancelotti is right to be concerned, because his the Spanish giants have come unstuck against such teams before, especially away from home. With Barcelona and Atletico Madrid winning last night, they both keep their 100 percent record so we cannot afford to lose touch.

Gareth Bale will not feature tonight after tweaking his thigh, but the manager claims he should be alright for the Madrid derby this weekend. As long as we win tonight, Madrid can overtake Atletico when they come to the Bernabeu on Saturday night, so that is a massive game. The return of Bale will be a real boost, but the team selected tonight must forget that game and concentrate on getting the job done against Elche.
