I don’t think it is an exaggeration to say that Jose Mourinho has had an absolute nightmare with injuries for Real Madrid this season. Since it began last summer, Mourinho has hardly ever been able to select from a full squad and this can be seen in the gap to Barcelona in the Primera Liga. This also means that the Copa Del Rey and the Champions league have taken on an even greater significance than usual for Los Blancos and the special one, because a season without trophies is unacceptable at a club like Real Madrid.
Failure to finish top of the group in Europe meant that Madrid got a tough draw against Manchester United, and the home leg is next week. Mourinho and Madrid have got some good injury news ahead of this crucial game, though. The 29-year old central defender Pepe has recovered from his injury and is training hard to get back to match fitness. He may not be able to start against Sevilla on Saturday, but I would not be surprised to see him get some time on the pitch to prepare him for the game against United.
Even if he is not 100 percent, Pepe’s experience and determination will probably be enough for Mourinho to pick him. United have a very dangerous strike pairing of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, and Madrid need to be at their best. The young French defender Varane has been exceptional recently and should be fit again after a small knock has kept him out of the France squad this week, but Ramos and Pepe are the main pairing and are likely to start next Wednesday.
