Finally, Real Madrid have announced their first signing of the summer. 26-year old Croatian international midfielder Luka Modric is having his medical at the Bernabeu today. The transfer fee to Tottenham is believed to be around £30 million. The two clubs are also said to have agreed some sort of partnership arrangement, although the details of this have not been released.
Modric has not played since Euro 2012, and has not been training with his Tottenham team mates as he tried to force Spurs chairman Daniel Levy not to block his dream move. He will, therefore, be unlikely to feature in the second leg of the Supercopa against Barcelona on Thursday.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was clearly pleased to be able to finally seal the deal.
“We are delighted to welcome Luka and look forward to working closely with Tottenham in the coming years.
Real Madrid now have a very talented and creative organiser in midfield, an offensive player who can assist his team mates.”
The move will probably prove to be the final nail in the coffin for Brazilian midfielder Kaka’s career at Real Madrid. Jose Mourinho has already indicated that he could leave for much less than Madrid paid Milan for him, and the Portuguese manager will now be keen to offload him before the window closes.
