Real Madrid boosted as Ronaldo is happy to stay and play

There is little argument that Cristiano Ronaldo is an absolutely vital player for Real Madrid. It is not just his amazing scoring record of over a goal a game since he signed from Manchester United in 2009, although his 201 goals in just 199 games have come in very handy. He creates chances and goals out of practically nothing and striker fear into the heart of opposing teams, so his declaration that he is happy to remain at the Bernabeu is great news.

The Portuguese international striker still has two years of his current contract to go, but there have been lots of rumours suggesting that he would push for a move away this summer. He now seems content to stay for now and see how things go with the new Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.

“I enjoy of course to play there,” said Ronaldo. “I play there for four years so of course I want to continue there.

“It is not a good time to talk about my future. I am going to have time to speak about that at the beginning of pre-season.”

Ancelotti has already told the Madrid fans that he cannot wait to work with Ronaldo, who he says is one of the best players there has ever been. Florentino Perez is determined to persuade Ronaldo to extend his time with Madrid, but that will depend on Ancelotti I think. If Ronaldo is happy, he will have no need to leave the biggest club in the world.
