Real Madrid boosted by Benzema’s goals for France

When Real Madrid agreed to sell Gonzalo Higuain to Napoli in the summer transfer window, and also not replace him with another striker, the idea was to show Karim Benzema that Carlo Ancelotti and the Club had faith in his abilities. Also, by playing regularly, his form would improve while his confidence would grow at the same time.

Well, it was not working, and as the Madrid fans and the Spanish press started to get on the striker’s back, you could tell that he was playing with the weight of the world on his shoulder. So this international was an opportunity for him to get back to business, but it was also a further test. Benzema had not scored for France in over 1200 minutes, and had lost his starting place to Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, so there was a chance he could return to the Bernabeu less happy than ever.

Fortunately for him, France and Real Madrid, Benzema came off the bench to score in both games. His finish last night against Finland had the look of a player with confidence as well, so hopefully he will now continue in that vein in La Liga, starting with the trip to Malaga this weekend. Welcome back Benzema!
