Real Madrid boss steps in to defend Clasico referee

Carlo Ancelotti must have been dismayed to see that two of his most important Real Madrid players, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo, had gone into meltdown after Sunday’s El Clasic defeat to Barcelona. The Italian manager is probably expecting both players to receive some sort of reprimand for accusing the referee of cheating and with every La Liga game now crucial, Ancelotti must be dreading that they will be punished with a ban.

So it was a good idea for him to try to move talk away from talk of Undiano Mallenco and his performance, as reported by Marca, in his press conference today. Ancelotti still claimed that Real Madrid had had no luck from Mallenco but suggested that it was nothing more than bad luck, while also suggesting that Ramos and Ronaldo were merely frustrated after such an intense game.

He also confirmed that Madrid would not be reporting the Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets for the incident after Messi scored a penalty when slow motion replays show him stepping on the head of Madrid defender Pepe, whether accidentally or not. Ancelotti did seem to say that he does not think that no action would have been taken had the two players’ positions been reversed.

Hopefully Ancelotti’s words will calm the situation down, especially after he said that he would have no problems with Mallenco taking charge of more games for them this season, even the Copa Del Rey final against Barca. Let’s just move on and keep winning.
