Real Madrid confirm the end of Mourinho

There has finally been official confirmation from Real Madrid about what everyone seemed to know anyway. Jose Mourinho will leave the club at the end of the season. The statement claims it is a mutual decision between the club and the Portuguese manager, so maybe they have come to some arrangement.

Both sides had not wanted to be the one to instigate it, although it seemed clear that it was what they both wanted. Mourinho’s position became untenable this season after more high profile bust ups with various members of the team and a degrading relationship with the fans and the Spanish media. His failure to get the results which made the problems worthwhile last season is probably the crucial factor, though.

“After the talks with our coach Jose Mourinho, we have reached the agreement to end the contractual relationship at the end of the season,” said the president Florentino Perez.

“Both the club and the coach agree that it is the right moment to end this relationship.”

Perez also denied claims that Real Madrid already have an agreement in place with Carlo Ancelotti of PSG. He promised that Real would show proper respect to them or any other club it had to deal with. He also seemed to suggest that Mourinho was worn down by the rigours of the job, somewhat reminiscent of Pep Guardiola last season.

“He is a very demanding coach, with himself and with the rest, and this wears you down.”

There are two La Liga games left and the Madrid fans would rather not have him in charge, so there have been some calls for the coach of the B team to take charge.
