Real Madrid eye Kondogbia as alternative to Illarramendi

Real Madrid have certainly not gone off the idea of signing the young defensive midfielder Asier Illarramendi, but Florentino Perez is also determined to make the club a lot tougher to deal with in the transfer market, so may decide that Sociedad are not worth dealing with.

Perez thought that an agreement was in place with the Northern Spanish club, but they have changed their tune and are insisting on squeezing every penny out of the deal. Perez has already shown his new ruthlessness in the transfer saga involving Gonzalo Higuain and Arsenal, so Sociedad may soon find that they can keep Illarramendi but lose out on the 30 million euro transfer fee.

Madrid have an alternative in mind, the Sevilla midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia who is currently on international duty. His France side are due to play Uruguay on Sunday in the under 20 World Cup final, and his debut season in La Liga drew great admiration and interest from a number of clubs. 20-year old Kondogbia is a bit more raw than Illarramendi, but he is also much cheaper and does have huge potential.

I would not be surprise, however, if Real Sociedad suddenly become a bit more easy to deal with now.
