Real Madrid face injury crisis but Bale could debut at Villareal

It is always a worry when a club’s players head off for an international break, and Real Madrid’s fears have been justified with a few key players picking up injuries while away with their national teams. There is another round of games tomorrow, and so Carlo Ancelotti will be sweating on losing any more players and hoping that the international managers go easy on him and use the Madrid players sparingly.

The Brazilian left back Marcelo picked up what looked like a bad injury at first, but today it is reported that he will be out for around three weeks. missing La Liga games against Getafe and Villareal and the first Champions League match against Galatasaray. The out of favour Coentrao would normally step in, but Ancelotti seems to have lost faith with the Portuguese and this could be a real problem.

Ronaldo scored a hat-trick for Portugal on Friday, which is great news for Madrid, but he faces a race to be ready for Saturday, after tweaking a tendon in his right thigh. Ronaldo is such an important player, especially now Ozil has left. The game on Saturday is away, and Villareal have started the season well, so we need as much creativity on the pitch as possible, but the new number 10 Isco is also a doubt with an ankle problem.

Thankfully, Spain have listened to Madrid and agreed not to risk playing the young midfielder tomorrow, so hopefully he will be fine. One player who Madrid do want to play tomorrow is the new man Gareth Bale. As he has not played any competitive football yet this season, a run out for Wales tomorrow could really help get him ready for his Real Madrid debut, and it looks like he will be needed.
