Real Madrid fans given hope for La liga after Ronaldo secures a draw against Barcelona

Going to face Barcelona at the Nou Camp is never an easy proposition, but Real Madrid and their fans had extra reasons for concern before yesterday’s Clasico. Barcelona had a 100 percent record in the league and a defeat would have left Jose Mourinho and his team a massive 11 points behind the leaders. It was not just the gaining of a point that has inspired confidence for the future, but the manner in which it was gained.

In an online survey conducted by the Spanish newspaper AS, 63 percent of people stated their belief that Real Madrid could still defend their title, while 37 percent thought that it was impossible. The game could have gone either way, with Ramos and Di Maria missing golden opportunities to score.

Barcelona had their usual large share of possession, but Madrid looked the more dangerous side when they had it. As usual, Mesii and Ronaldo were the stars of the show. Another online poll about who was the better player in this match struggled to split them, with Ronaldo getting 51 percent of the vote.

Ozil was given the chance to redeem himself by Mourinho and the German worked tirelessly and gave Barcelona no time to settle. The atmosphere in the ground was much less hostile than on previous occassions and the players of both sides also showed more respect. Of course it was fiercely contested, but fairly at the same time.
