Real Madrid get tough draw in Champion’s League

Jose Mourinho will not be scared of facing any team in Europe, but he must have been cursing his luck today when the draw for the Champion’s league was made in Monaco. Manchester City, Ajax of Amsterdam and Borussia Dortmund were drawn with Madrid.

All of the teams are the current champions of their countries. At least Madrid avoided Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain in the third pot, but Ajax are a very good, organised team. Since taking over as manager, Frank de Boer has led his side to back to back Dutch championships.

Man City have got a team full of star names such as Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez,David Silva and Yaya Toure. Their Italian manager Roberto Mancini has got them playing as a team and they beat Manchester United to the English Premier league title on goal difference on the last day of last season. Madrid’s first game of the group will be at the Bernabeu against Mancini’s men.

German club Dortmund beat Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title last season and beat them in the German cup final as well. It will be a fiercely competitive group with no easy games. There will be no possibility of fielding a weakened side for Mourinho.

The draw was followed by the presentation of the trophy for UEFA player of the year. The three players up for the award were Christiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi and Andres Iniesta. Madrid’s hard day was complete when Iniesta was named as the winner. He got 19 votes and Ronaldo and Messi got 17 votes each.
