Real Madrid have Champions League injury problems with Marcelo and Modric

Real Madrid face the biggest game of the season so far tomorrow, and it seems as if Jose Mourinho will have fewer players to choose from than he would like. Luka Modric, who was the star of the show as Madrid came from behind to beat Manchester United at Old Trafford, is a real doubt. To add to the problems, the Brazilian left back Marcelo looks like missing both legs.

Marcelo suffered a torn muscle during the Primera Liga game against Real Betis on Saturday, leaving just Fabio Coentrao. The Portuguese defender is a great player, but any injury or disciplinary problem will leave Madrid dangerously exposed. Mourinho would probably have selected Coentrao for the away leg against Borussia Dortmund anyway. He is more solid defensively, but Marcelo offers more in attack and could bre missed in the Bernabeu, depending on tomorrow’s result.

Modric also has a muscle problem, although not as serious. He has really started to show his worth and Mourinho will be hoping that he can shake off his problem by tomorrow. Karim Benzema and Diego Lopez also picked up minor knocks at the weekend, but are expected to be available, giving Mourinho a very strong squad to choose from.
