Real Madrid have competition for Bale say Tottenham

There is widespread belief in Spain and England that Real Madrid have all but completed the signing of Gareth Bale from Tottenham, but there are rumours that there may be another club interested and Real Madrid could still lose out on the man they have been chasing hard all summer.

At the Santiago Bernabeu, the platform that is used to show off new signings to the Real Madrid fans has already been erected, and many media sources in Spain and England are reporting that the unveiling of the Welsh international is due to take place tomorrow. Bale is supposedly injured and just happens to be `recovering` on holiday in Spain’s Costa Del Sol, but that is rather hard to believe.

The transfer fee is apparently set to be a new world record of £86 million, but there are apparently no other players involved in the deal. The report on Sky Sports, however, suggests that it could be another Premier League club that could hijack the deal. Manchester United have already been linked with Bale, while both Chelsea and Man City have the resources to challenge Madrid.

Knowing the way that the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy does business, though, I think this story is a ploy designed to squeeze a few extra million out of Madrid. Or maybe Perez is now refusing to pay the massive fee and is trying to get the deal done cheaper, knowing that Spurs have already spent big and need to sell their star or face huge financial problems. If I was Perez I would offer Levy a take it or leave it £60-70 million, which is more than enough for Bale.
