Real Madrid hopeful as Bale and Levy set for showdown talks

The chances of Real Madrid being able to complete the transfer of Gareth Bale are looking better after the Tottenham star returned to London this morning from the Asia tour. The Tottenham chairman was supposed to be returning to Florida to continue his family holiday, but he is also going back to London, and the belief is that he is going to try one more time to persuade Bale to stay.

The manager Andres Villas-Boas fueled speculation by refusing to deny reports that Bale had asked to be allowed to join Madrid. There have also been reports that the stories about Bale not playing on the tour because of injury are completely fabricated and the Welsh international is fine and fit to play.

The 24-year old star is known to be a pleasant and easy going person, but it would seem he has had enough of Levy and his hardball ways, and is determined to make the transfer, even if it means forcing his way out by handing in a transfer request or refusing to play, although I cannot see that happening.

Tottenham are willing to smash their wage structure to keep Bale, but they do not seem to understand that it is ambition fuelling his desire to come to Madrid, not money. Another season in the Europa League and with little chance of breaking into the top four or winning a trophy is just not good enough for one of the best players in the world.
