Real Madrid lose Bale but still blow Getafe away [with highlights]

Hopefully it was just a precautionary measure on the part of Real Madrid and it’s medical staff, but when the player you have just paid around 100 million euros for has to drop out of the team with an injury problem, it is a serious concern. Gareth Bale did not seem to be suffering any problem during the warm up yesterday, but apparently he felt a twinge in his leg and so was removed from the starting line up to face Getafe.

That meant that another new signing, Isco, was given a place from the start rather than on the bench, and the young midfield star grabbed it with both hands. Together, Isco and Ronaldo gave a football masterclass and showed signs that they are really developing a good understanding.

Madrid had to show courage and character as well after Lafita had put the visitors into a shock lead before five minutes had passed. The team responded well, though, and were back on level terms 15 minutes later, with Pepe bundling home after Ronaldo’s shot was blocked. The Portuguese then put Madrid ahead from the penalty spot before half time. He added a second in the last seconds of the game, but the goal of the night was scored by Isco, to cap an excellent game.

There was a note of gloom at the Bernabeu, as Benzema had an off day, missing a number of good chances. The home crowd got more and more on the French striker’s back and he left the field to a chorus of cheers and whistles when replace by Morata near the end. I know he can be frustrating, but that receotion is not going to do much for his confidence.
