Real Madrid on alert as Suarez hints at Liverpool exit

One of the Real Madrid transfer targets has given the club all the encouragement it needs to push on with the pursuit. Luis Suarez, the Liverpool and Uruguay striker, has been speaking about his treatment from the English press and suggested that this may force him to leave Anfield and the English Premier League altogether.

Suarez has been vilified by the media in England, sometimes rightly, for his behaviour. His latest transgression was to bite the arm of the Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. It was undoubtedly a bad thing to do, but Suarez and many others feel the 10 game ban handed down by the football authorities was completely over the top and was fuelled by the press coverage.

Suarez is aware of interest from Madrid and has also admitted that he would like to play for them. He is due to miss the first six games of the Premier League season anyway, due to his ban. Liverpool have declared their determination to keep him, but they will not do so if the striker is equally determined to leave. The money they would get for Suarez would be able to buy them at least two good players and they would prefer to do that earlier, so Madrid should move fast on this one, if Suarez is a serious target.

“The desire to win with the big clubs is always there,” admitted Suarez. “I’ve talked to my agent, there’s nothing concrete. To say no to Madrid would always be difficult and more so with the team they have.

“I have a contract with Liverpool, but it would be very difficult to say no to Real Madrid. There are a lot of rumours in the transfer window, but you never know until firm offers are made.

“I’m happy at Liverpool. I’m happy because of the fans. I made a mistake. I’m human, but they’ve talked about me in ways they shouldn’t have. My family have suffered and things got out of hand. My daughter and my wife have suffered. I’m not prepared to continue to put up with the English press.”

Florentino Perez has a big decision to make. He has already seen Falcao and Neymar go elsewhere and he needs some big name signings. Suarez is a world class striker who I am sure would do brilliantly at the Bernabeu. The problem is that he does do things to get the media on his back. Having just got rid of one controversial figure in Mourinho, Madrid are trying to mend their reputation and there is a concern that Suarez would hinder that.
