Real Madrid react to Ronaldo transfer rumours

The story has been doing the rounds for some time now, and it appears that officials at Real Madrid have had enough. The club director Emilio Butragueno has told any teams who are hoping to get the Portuguese superstar this summer, in no uncertain terms, that it is not going to happen.

Paris Saint-Germain are known to be eagerly awaiting news that the 28-year old is up for sale, and Manchester United are supposed to have held talks with their sponsors about financing the purchase of arguably the world’s best player. However, there is a small problem in that he is contracted to Madrid until summer 2015 and the club are only interested in extending that period, not shortening it.

“Cristiano is under contract and we are very happy with him,” stated Butragueno.

“His contribution to the team and the club has been amazing. We are very grateful he came to us and we are lucky he plays for Real Madrid.

“He scores a goal a game on average. This is incredible. I have been watching football since I was three and never saw anything like that.

“When he is on the pitch, you know you are going to score.”

It is clear that Ronaldo is irreplaceable, so why would the club sell him before they have to? The rumours started last year when Ronaldo admitted he was sad about something, but he seems much happier with life now. He was reminded last week how much he was loved by United fans, but he has now been taken to heart by the Bernabeu faithful as well.

Hopefully Ronaldo can fire Real Madrid to an historic 10th European cup triumph, and the club can persuade him to sign a new contract to keep him in Spain past 2015. There is a growing feeling, also, that Jose Mourinho may yet be the manager next season, and everybody finally seems to be pulling in the same direction.
