Real Madrid rocked by 6 month injury to Germany star Khedira

It is always a danger during the international break, and it has happened again to Real Madrid. A number of players last season came down with the so-called FIFA virus, including Marcelo and Coentrao at the same time, and it struck again last night.

This time it was the Germany midfielder Sami Khedira who was injured, and it was a bad one. The powerful midfielder lasted just over an hour against Italy in his countries 1-1 draw, and today it has been revealed that he has torn a cruciate ligament in his knee, meaning that Real Madrid will have to do without him for around six months.

That basically rules Khedira out for the season and gives Carlo Ancelotti a huge headache. Despite media rumours about the 26-year old being unhappy and stories linking him with a possible transfer to the Premier League with Chelsea or Arsenal, Khedira has started more games than any other midfielder and was clearly a key figure in Ancelotti’s plans.

The Iyalian manager will mow have to re-organise and make a decision about whether to enter the transfer market in January to replace him. There have been rumours of interest in Paul Pogba of Juventus and Ramires of Chelsea, but Madrid have recently got Xabi Alonso back from injury, while the new summer signing Asier Illarramendi is pushing for more regular game time.

With those two, Modric and even Pepe able to play a deep lying role, I would think that Madrid could cope and not have to sign anyone, but we will see what Ancelotti thinks in January.
