Real Madrid stars facing ban after Clasico complaints

As if Real Madrid losing El Clasico to Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu was not bad enough, Carlo Ancelotti and his team could be set for even further punishment. The refereeing technical committee, called the RFEF in Spain, is looking in to statements made by Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, as an AS report explains, in the wake of the disappointing defeat and I cannot see any outcome other than both players being given bans.

Ramos is already set for a ban because of his straight red card issued for a professional foul on Neymar. They would probably have been lenient though, because replays showed that although he made a little contact with the Barcelona striker, it was accidental. They may even have decided that it was not a clear goal scoring opportunity but I doubt it because Neymar was right in on goal.

The second penalty was also arguable, but for Ronaldo and Ramos to suggest a premeditated intent on the part of the referee is bound to get them in trouble, especially when you see that Ronaldo’s penalty should definitely not have been given. Why did Ancelotti not make sure his players kept their mouths shut until they had calmed down?

Now we are going to miss two of our most important players for what are all going to be massive games for the rest of the season. And it does not get around the fact that Madrid should have won the game but we missed chances and failed to control the game once taking the lead. I suspect that both players were frustrated at their own performances as mush as that of referee Mallenco. And now they have compounded their errors and handed a great boost to Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
