Real Madrid transfer news – Benzema, Pepe and Di Maria

Posted on August 13, 2013 by admin

As the long running saga of Gareth Bale and his transfer to Real Madrid rumbles on, the first game of La Liga is less than a week away. The transfer window is due to close in less than three weeks, and Madrid do not seem to be looking to sign any more players, other than the Welshman from Tottenham, but that may not be the last bit of transfer business the club does.

The other possibilities involve a few players who might be set to leave the Santiago Bernabeu. There have been media reports about three Madrid players recently, so let’s have a look at the chances of them actually leaving. Yesterday there were runours in the English and Spanish media that Arsenal were preparing an offer for our French international striker Karim Benzema. I think we can rule that one out. Whether or not Arsene Wenger wants Benzema, or would be willing to meet his valuation, makes no difference. Ancelotti will not even consider selling his main striker, unless he was planning to replace him, in which case he would already have signed someone.

Angel Di Maria has been linked with a transfer this summer, with various clubs interested, but the Argentinean winger has now declared that he does not want to leave Madrid. Ancelotti has also told the press that he is happy with the situation, so Di Maria will be a Madrid player this season.

The most likely to leave is Pepe. The Portuguese international defender is being targeted by the Premier League club Manchester City. They are in need of a player because of an injury to their Serbian international Matija Nastasic, and have plenty of money to spend. Pepe was not happy about losing his place to Rafael Varane last season, so he could accept the transfer to make sure he gets plenty of playing time in the build up to the Rio 2014 world cup. Apparently, executives from Man City are due in Madrid today to negotiate. I hope it does not happen, because I think it would be a huge mistake and a massive risk to sell such a versatile and top quality player. One injury would then leave us in big trouble.
