Real Madrid v Real Betis La Liga preview – Ancelotti happy and confident with squad

Real Madrid get their La Liga campaign underway this evening when Real Betis come to the Santiago Bernabeu for Carlo Ancelotti’s first competitive game as manager of Los Blancos. Although there are still a few possible transfers being reported in the media, the 54-year old Italian has professed himsrelf to be content with the players that he has got.

Real Madrid fans are expecting a much stronger start to the season than last year, when Mourinho’s team played themselves out of the title race before Christmas. The club has already added some top quality players in key positions, although it is unlikely that Asier Illarramendi will feature as he is regaining his fitness.

Isco is likely to start today, as is Carvajal in place of Arbeloa at right back. With the reinvigorated Benzema at the point of attack and Ronaldo on the left, Ancelotti has the choice of Ozil or Di Maria on the other side of the trident. Varane is injured, so Pepe will partner Ramos in defence, while Coentrao has apparently asked for a transfer and will not play. Alonso is also still out, so Khedira will probably line up alongside Modric in the middle.

Betis were pretty good last season and qualified for the Europa League after finishing 7th, but Real Madrid should prove to be way too strong, especially at home.
