Real Madrid wait as Mourinho slams Ronaldo and Man United plan transfer bid

Cristiano Ronaldo should be used to being the centre of attention, since moving to Real Madrid the Portuguese striker has never been out of the world’s spotlight. Thankfully, he doesn’t seem to mind too much, so that is one less reason for him to leave the club.

This summer could be a turning point in his career, however. Florentino Perez has been re-elected and will be desperate to persuade the 28-year old goal machine to sign an extension to his current contract, which has two years left to run. He has declined to accept so far this year, but that could easily be because of the Mourinho effect. It is clear from the departing manager’s words that the two did not see eye-to-eye.

“I had one problem with him, simple, basic, which was when a coach criticises a player from a tactical viewpoint, trying to improve what in my view could have been improved,” said Mourinho.

“And he didn’t take it very well because maybe he thinks he knows everything and the coach cannot help him to develop more.”

There are reports from England today that his former club Manchester United are preparing to offer around £65 million plus a United player for Ronaldo. It doesn’t say which players they might offer, but there are a few decent options including the Mexican striker Javier Hernandez or even Wayne Rooney. It could all depend on Ronaldo. One of the major reasons for his close connection to the club was the manager Alex Ferguson, but he has now retired, of course.

Hopefully Perez and the new manager will persuade him to commit his future and help Madrid back to the pinnacle of Spanish and European football.
