Romours of Ronaldo rift in Real Madrid squad

There have been stories circulating in the Spanish press that all is not exactly rosy in the Real Madrid dressing room. The trouble apparently flared after the disappointing and damaging derby defeat by Barcelona on Sunday and if it does not get sorted out soon then it could affect the team’s focus for the crucial final nine games of this La Liga season.

The story, reported by Mundo Deportivo, claims that the two players on opposing sides of the argument are Cristiano Ronaldo and Iker Casillas, which is a nightmare because they are the two biggest characters in the dressing room and will command the support of some of their team-mates. The problem was that Casillas instructed all of the players not to be too vehement in their criticism of referee Mallenco. The club captain was concerned that this would damage the image of Real Madrid and could lead to further problems with officials and he was right.

But Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos decided to go their own way and they now risk possible bans and could have angered all of the referees in La Liga. Apparently, Ronaldo was scathing about Casillas’ motives and suggested that he was more concerned about his and the club’s image than the truth or what actually happened. If the players cannot sort this problem out quickly among themselves then Ancelotti or Zidane need to step in, because we need a focused and united team for this tightest of all title races.
