Real Madrid have defensive problems today, after losing Marcelo, Coentrao and Arbeloa from the defence. The international break has not been kind to Jose Mourinho and the Special One will be hoping that his team can cause enough problems going forward to negate the defensive problems.
Christiano Ronaldo has some extra incentives to get on the scoresheet and he is a player who often responds to such things favourably. At the minute there are three players tied at the top of the goal scoring charts in La Liga, with Ronaldo, Messi and Falcao all having scored eight league goals so far.
Also, Ronaldo is in the race for the Ballon D’Or and knows that the time between now and January could make all the difference. Most people believe that it is a close run thing between Messi and Ronaldo, and Ronaldo would love to win back the award that the Argentinean has won for the last three years.
Another target for the Portuguese wizard is in the Real Madrid all-time scoring list. Three more goals will put Ronaldo level with Butragueno and Pirri in seventh place, but his goals to games ratio is vastly superior.
Finally, Celta Vigo is the only team in La Liga that Ronaldo has not scored against in a competitive match. His recent scoring form suggests that he is likely to complete his set today.
