Ronaldo returns to Real Madrid early for talks with Mourinho

Jose Mourinho did not want to discuss the issues that have caused Christiano Ronaldo to announce that he was not happy until after the international break. Ronaldo has appeared for the full 90 minutes of both of Portugal’s World Cup qualifying games, which they won comfortably. Mourinho, who is also Portuguese did not want to distract his striker from his international obligations.

It had been decided, however, that Mourinho should be the one to meet with Ronaldo to try to alleviate any concerns he has. Madrid’s number seven consequently turned up at the training ground at Valdebebas a full two hours before the rest of the squad. No statement has been released but it is widely believed in the Spanish media that Mourinho will have told Ronaldo that they are working on a new and improved contract to keep him at the Bernabeu for the rest of his career.

The main point, however, is that bosses at Madrid want to explain to Ronaldo that they cannot push his case for the Ballon D’Or too hard because other Madrid players Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos are in the running. Mourinho has been advocating Ronaldo to win for some time and they hope to convince him that he is fully appreciated at the club. Pictures of them during training show happy, smiling faces so hopefully it has done the trick.
