Ronaldo signs new contract to keep him at Real Madrid forever

Any hopes that other teams may have had of prising Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid went up in smoke today. The Portuguese star has signed a new five year contract with the Spanish giants, ending all the rumour and speculation that has surrounded him for the last year.

Ever since he said, near the beginning of last season, that he was sad, there have been stories in the media linking him with Manchester United, City, Chelsea, PSG and others, but he insisted today that Madrid was his home and made a point of saying that he is happy. I wonder if Mr. Mourinho could have had anything to do with Ronaldo’s sadness, because he does seem to have a knack of pissing players off.

For 28-year old Ronaldo to sign for another five years suggests that he will finish his career at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. He will be 34 when this deal comes to an end, so we will definitely get the best years of his playing career. The new deal also puts to bed the speculation that Ronaldo is unhappy about the signing of Gareth Bale, while his new deal makes him the highest paid player in Spain.

With 203 goals for the club already, surely Ronaldo will go on to be Real Madrid’s record goal scorer, which is currently Raul on 323. CR7 could well set a target that will never be beaten.
