Ronaldo’s perfect hat-trick helps Real Madrid beat Getafe and prepare for Clasico

It appears that Real Madrid are hitting form at exactly the right time. Despite suffering with injuries and suspensions, Los Blancos have not lost a game in over a month. It seems as if Jose Mourinho has steadied the ship and stopped the rot. His well publicised row with Iker Casillas, whether true or not, seems to be over. The players seem to have accepted, at least for now, that Mourinho is in charge and is their best chance of rescuing something from the season.

Mourinho and his teams have often thrived when the pressure is on and everything seems against them. That is certainly true at the minute, and the impending visit of Barcelona to the Bernabeu for the Copa Del Rey semi-final first leg seems to have focused everybody’s attention.

Madrid had chances early on against Getafe, but did not open the scoring until the second half. Sergio Ramos showed more urgency than the defence to bundle the ball into the net from a corner. After that it was the Ronaldo show. Mesut Ozil was back on form and slipped Ronaldo in for the Portuguese striker to finish crisply with his left foot. Three minutes later he headed home from another Di Maria corner, and he completed a perfect hat-trick with a right footed penalty.

It was a devastating 10 minute spell from the star, and we will need him to be at his best on Wednesday when Barcelona come to town. Barcelona may be on a great run, but they have been dodgy at the back and Madrid have plenty of players who can punish them.
